This past weekend, Holy Spirit High School in New Jersey, seemed to step into the world of not being politically correct when a few students donned banana and monkey costumes to "have some fun with their friends". The Holy Spirit basketball coach thought the actions of the students were done "in fun and they did not mean to offend anyone" despite the fact that some of us were offended by what we have come to know as blatant, not so covert, racism.
It's interesting to note that over the last few years, there has been a rise in young white teens, and I can only assume younger pre-teens, embrace racist attitudes towards African Americans. This underlying cauldron of hatred is easily revealed whenever a black actor, male or female, assumes a role that these young, marginally educated people just cannot tolerate. Such as the character Rue, in "The Hunger Games; Catching Fire" or Heimdall in "Thor".
