Bill Maher's broadcast this past Friday night touched a nerve when the 'conversation' naturally turned towards what Donald Sterling's assistant/closet girlfriend owed him for the pricey items he gave her. I'd love to have Maher explain why the young lady owed him anything? Why do men expect women to reciprocate with "favors"? This paternalistic accepted social anachronism still beats in the hearts of even so-called progressive thinking men! The sad thing is not one male on the panel objected to Maher's statement that Stiviano "owed Sterling something" and worse, Arianna Huffington, womens' advocate, silently let the "elephant in the room" moment pass.
It should mean something to women and men who advocate for equal pay and a woman's right to choose to also not expect women to "give something" (typically a sexual favor) when a man gives a gift!
The point: All women are not prostitutes and all men should not assume that they are sugar daddies!
